Col. Friedrich K. Hecker Camp #443 Commander David Wildermuth died at home July 20, 2023, surrounded by family, after a battle with cancer. A member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) and Hecker Camp since May 2013, he was serving his fifth term as camp commander when he passed.

Born in 1959, CC Wildermuth was a life-long resident of the Fairview Heights, Illinois area. He worked for 14 years at Belleville Memorial Hospital, and he retired from the City of Fairview Heights Street Department after 30 years. He also retired as a lieutenant after 37 years as a part-time, on-call firefighter for the Fairview/Caseyville Township Fire Protection District in Fairview Heights.

A Celebration of Life for him will be held this Saturday, July 29 in Fairview Heights at the firehouse next to City Hall on Bunkum Road from 10 a.m. to noon. The address is 10045 Bunkum Rd, Fairview Heights, Illinois 62208. CC Wildermuth hoped that any camp members that would come would wear their Civil War uniforms.
